Starting today, people in 7,347 events in 188 countries are getting to work on the climate crisis. Organized by 350.org these events are sending a clear message to politicians worldwide that people do care about the climate crisis, we’re getting to work to solve it, and we want our politicians to do the same: stop arguing, and get to work.
According to Bill McKibben, Founder of 350.org, “(more than) 7000 events in 188 countries makes this not just the largest day of environmental action ever, but the most widespread day of political engagement on any topic. These actions make clear that Copenhagen and Congress didn’t discourage people—they made them decide that they were going to have to show ‘leaders’ how to lead.”
McKibben goes on to say “This won’t solve climate change overnight—but it’s one big step in building a movement strong enough to compete with the power of oil and coal money.”
